The existing jail in Downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota was outdated and at capacity. The decision to move the jail to the outskirts of town and build a new building was made, and the old building was transformed into a juvenile detention center. The Grand Forks County Correctional Center is a 83,000 s.f. correctional center of the highest quality, due to incorporating flexible and multi-purpose design solutions. The building was designed for County, State, and Federal prisoners with a diverse blend of functions. The Grand Forks County Correctional Center houses women and men with different classifications of criminals. The Correctional Center has a work-release program and features short-term holding cells including padded and ADA cells.
